Just as Kandinsky exploited color and form to create experiences that engaged the sight, sound, and the emotions of viewers so do the works of Jim Wildman.

Jim Wildman has taken a dramatic turn in his creative career. After spending years in the architectural and building industry he turned his hand towards woodworking and fine art.

What started as a suggestion to move beyond wood to painting; Jim soon embraced this as a new goal and now painting is an important source of his daily creative existence.

MIXED MEDIA

Conveying our sense of place within the world, Jim Wildman explores media on canvas, wood panels or paper.

Jim creates mostly abstracts in oil, acrylic or latex paintings combined with plaster or gypsum on canvas, wood panels and paper. His technique consists of carefully adding and subtracting layers of colors by using brushes and squeegees. He creates a dense, subtle and slowly deepening mixture of overlapping colors and shapes. His work is an abstract and unique view of the nature around him. Woods, lakes, mountains, countrysides nearby. Green Country Oklahoma is his main inspiration.

JW Designs - Jim Wildman Paintings embrace the beauty and his impressions of his environment. He captures the transitions of seasons in nature. He sees beauty in new growth and decay.

Jim enjoys creating large-scale wall works, mylar drawings in addition to computer generated drawings.

TREE TALK

Jim painstakingly applies layers of paint emulating the seasons. Nature is everywhere we just need to open our eyes to its beauty. That is why I love wood. Wood colors inspire my work as well. Wood speaks to you. Just as trees speak constantly, even if quietly, communicating above- and underground using sound, scents, signals, and vibes. If you study musical history there are references to the songs of trees, and the way they speak: whispering pines, falling branches, crackling leaves, the steady hum buzzing through the forest.

"I blur things to make everything equally important and equally unimportant. I blur things so that they do not look artistic or craftsman like but technological, smooth and perfect. I blur things to make all the parts a closer fit. Perhaps I also blur out the excess of unimportant information."

Gerhardt Richter

GREEN PATH

"The glowing power of nature is found in my world. I love yellow points of color against the forest green background. Green paintings provide a stunning effect on a wall. I like using a very bold, pure color. The content of my work has these same characteristics—straightforward. The color is reflective of my inspirations.”

Grün Series

No. 201856 - GrünSeries 1

Inspired by modern German painters of the 1960s, Jim Wildman Artist uses a build up of texture with gypsum, plaster and then mark-making into the texture as the key compositional elements in Grün Series. INSPIRED BY NATURE this series focus is on the green and yellow hues found in nature.

The German word for green is. Grün. Paint is applied thickly and worked with palette knives and squeegees to evoke a feeling of spontaneity and movement, a balance to the quiet of the monochrome palette.

I like to look between the color by viewing painting in an emotional way, with references to nature:

I believe color effects emotion. This painting for example, was created using classic green tones. Green is uplifting color. In art, color is used, not only to represent the truth of an object, like trees are green for instance, but also to influence how viewers feel when looking at their work.

Encaustic Series

"Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used. The simplest encaustic mixture can be made from adding pigments to beeswax, but there are several other recipes that can be used—some containing other types of waxes, damar resin, linseed oil, or other ingredients. Pure, powdered pigments can be used, though some mixtures use oil paints or other forms of pigment.[1]"

Jim Wildman layers black and blue with-white and various ochre pigments over a dark ebony background, creating innumerable subtle shades of grey anchored by the inherent drama and emotion of creating works with black. He created this work as a an exploration of shadows on water.

Nature Inspired Paintings

Modern Abstract Art for Modern Interiors

Jim Wildman's art starts with simple materials inspired first by his love of nature and his on going affection for wood. In his hands, wood, paint, and metal become beautiful. He works with color and patina to make deep and rich paintings.

"For me, ideas evolve from everywhere, nature, my wood shop or immediate and local influences that inspire me and often seem random and accidental. Opportunity is all around us for inspiration. Material to work with is also everywhere. My material and color choices reflect my aesthetic at a particular moment. We look at everything as if it is a mirror. In art, we see ourselves."

Claremore Lake, OKlahoma. Jim Wildmans view.

Wildman's contemporary landscape paintings are based on his surroundings, observation and photographs.

Painting on canvas, wood panels and paper accented by wood, Steel, polymer, gypsum, plaster fiberglass, foam, paint, resin, gold, copper and silver leaf.

"Expanding my work to painting, I was pleased to experience a new level of creativity. In building my layered abstracts I use different tools; from brushes, knives, scrapers, wood or rubber squeeges, and even my bare hands. I use them to remove or control the flow of liquid on the flat surface. The amount of layers can be quite different on each painting. Depending on my mood, or current projects in the wood shop it can be a varied from very minimal to extreme heavy build-up and complex color mixing.

Each painting comes to a moment that it is set aside to dry out before I give it a final coat of varnish. Mostly, I wait until the painting connects with me and once it feels right it becomes finished. "

JW DESIGNS offering an unparalleled selection of original works.

"I also am enjoying exploring architectural shapes combined with layering in my work.
